Together, we can ensure another incredible year of discovery and innovation.
Thanks to the dedication and commitment of donors like you, this past year was a breakthrough year for our hospitals and research institutions.
Groundbreaking discoveries were made, and huge strides were taken in the early detection of disease. As a result, hundreds of patients’ lives will be forever changed for the better.
Thanks to you, several key accomplishments were made in 2007 including:
- the identification of a new gene associated with the late onset of Alzheimer’s disease
- the first North American implantation of biodegradable material that
encourages the heart’s own healthy tissue to grow and heal itself - a revolutionary new treatment called Deep Brain Stimulation that helps to alleviate severe depression and possibly a host of other neurological disorders including Parkinson’s disease and Tourette’s Syndrome
- the opening a state-of-the-art Epilepsy Monitoring Unit for improved diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy
- the purchase of Aquilion One, a sophisticated CT Scanner capable of detecting the early warning signs of heart attack and stroke, and the first of its kind in Canada
Those are just a few of the many extraordinary breakthroughs and vital new treatments that your generous support helped to make possible in 2007!
Together, we have achieved so much, and with your continued support in 2008, we can ensure that our hospitals stay at the forefront of patient care. Thank you for renewing your membership in The Frederick Banting Society and helping us carry on his proud tradition of finding the answers.
