Nurses are the heart and soul of health care. They strive to meet the unique psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs of all patients and their families. Their work environment is complex and ever-changing and challenges their ability to manage heavy workloads and keep pace with the latest medical and technological advances.
Currently, there is a critical shortage of nurses in Canada. This shortage impacts day-to-day care and the long-term sustainability of our health care system. At UHN, we are committed to revitalizing the nursing profession through innovative professional development programs.
Professional Development at UHN
Professional development opportunities allow nurses to develop new skills, learn from experts in specialized fields, share knowledge, and investigate new approaches to patient care.
How You Can Help
Donors play a vital role in advancing nursing professional development. In 2011, donor-supported scholarships gave 56 nurses opportunities to pursue advanced training and specialized research projects. Donor support has also been pivotal in establishing the country's first nursing academy, which will facilitate nurses' enrolment in and completion of post-graduate programs.
There's always an answer. We'll find it.
